Rooted in Mission

We are committed to collaborations rooted in food, land, and learning so that people can grow and thrive in healthy, equitable, and sustainable neighborhoods.

We fulfill this mission by working with volunteers, schools and community leaders to bring urban farming and urban agricultural education to those who need it most.

Rooted builds community-led food systems through food access, land access and urban agriculture education. Community is at the forefront of all of our work; we learn from our neighbors, listen to the youth and follow the lead of elders.

This intergenerational collaboration builds resilience and unites us in the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to grow and thrive.

Rooted provides locally grown, culturally inclusive food for low- to no-cost to the north, south, and east sides of Madison at partner neighborhood centers and community markets.

We partner with local schools to bring experiential learning to youth of all ages – priming the soil for the next generation of land stewards and community leaders.

Rooted does all of this (and more!) by keeping our community members at the forefront of every decision we make.

Who is our community? YOU are! Neighbors, youth, teachers, community growers, farmers, volunteers, leaders, and chefs, all coming together to build a healthy, equitable and accessible food system.

We know you believe in this mission as much as we do. Your gift will help keep the gardens growing for years to come.

Thank you for your generous support of our work.

A few of our board members want you to know why Rooted is so important to Madison.

Rooted board members come from diverse backgrounds, just like our community. We have members who have served for over 20 years, and others who are just getting started. These are people actively working in our community, some who are parenting, and a few who are retired. Regardless of their background, all board members share Rooted’s mission of increased land access, food access and urban agriculture education here in Dane County.

Do you think Rooted is important? We would love to hear from you!

The Big Share fundraiser is an important part of funding Rooted’s programs. We depend on support from community members like YOU.

Your gift helps grow the gardens.
