Badger Rock Community Gardens

Grow food and community on the South Side

Area residents can apply to garden at Badger Rock Community Gardens each year. This community garden offers three different types of plots: wooden raised beds, metal (stock tank) raised beds, and in-ground plots. In return for the opportunity to use the land to grow their own food and share gardening knowledge and ideas, community gardeners assist in site maintenance and management through volunteer commitments.

Returning Gardeners

All returning gardeners must submit an application each season. Please read the garden rules on the application form before submitting your application. Returning gardeners may apply for one additional plot per year up to a total of three plots. You will be contacted prior to Opening Day with your plot number(s). Please DO NOT begin gardening until you receive your plot number(s).

There are two ways to submit your application for your garden plot(s):

  1. Download the Gardener Application and Demographics Form.
Paper copies are also available from Badger Rock Neighborhood Center. These can then be filled out and returned in person to the Neighborhood Center or sent by mail to Rooted, 517 East Badger Road, Madison, WI 53713.
Gardener Application and Demographics Form are also available in Spanish.
  2. Fill out an application online. Payment can be made online or by cash or check. Online application is also available in Spanish.

New gardeners at Badger Rock are limited to one plot or raised bed the first year. It is our mission to serve residents of the South Side. Given space limitations, we may give priority to new gardeners who live on the South Side or closest to the gardens. If you are assigned a plot, you will receive an email with your garden plot assignments before Opening Day.
