Title: Troy Farm Pizza Night Manager

Salary: $20/hour
Dates: July 31 – October 4, 2025
About Troy Farm
Troy Farm is a project of Rooted located on a 26-acre property that also includes the Troy Kids’ Garden, Troy Community Gardens, and other natural areas. Troy Farm operates alongside six other growing operations in the Troy Farm Collaborative, which Troy Farm supports and collaborates with on the 5-acre farm. Troy Farm itself includes 1.5 acres of field and greenhouse production of certified organic diversified vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers. The farm has been growing certified organic vegetables on Madison’s Northside since 2001, and we are proud to be one of the city’s oldest urban farms. Troy Farm produce is sold to members of our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) operation and to local restaurants. Some of the produce we grow is distributed free of cost to nearby neighborhood centers where it is available to community members through the Purpose Grown Project. Troy Farm hosts various community and educational events throughout the year including Pizza Nights!
About the Position
The Troy Farm Pizza Night Manager position manages all activities related to planning, ingredient preparation, pizza preparation, cooking, and sales for Troy Farm Pizza Nights and special events held on select Saturdays. This involves working with volunteers, youth and staff members at our Badger Rock commercial kitchen site on the Southside of Madison and our Troy Farm Stand site on the Northside of Madison. Most pizza nights will run from 4pm to 7pm on Thursdays in the time frame of July 31st to September 18th. There will also be a Troy Farm Dinner Event on Saturday September 27th and a Saturday community event pizza night on October 4th
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Planning activities related to marketing, pricing, procurement, logistics, etc.
- Coordinating ingredient ordering, processing, and preservation prior to farm to pizza nights.
- Securing donated and purchased supplies and equipment.
- Lead group volunteers and youth through the process of cleaning, processing, and preparing vegetables and other ingredients for pizzas.
- Lead volunteers and Troy Farm crew members through the process of taking orders, preparing pizzas, and serving pizzas.
- Coordinating setup and cleanup of on farm pizza nights.
- Coordinate marketing with administrative and Troy Farm staff.
- Maintaining accurate records and accounting.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with recipe and product development in a production setting.
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen in a production setting.
- Experience operating a wood-fired oven is a plus, or strong desire to learn.
- Experience managing customers and food events or large influxes of customers.
- Ability to manage a diverse group of people and age ranges including youth, volunteers, and Rooted crew members.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with others.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast paced outdoors environment in a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to consistently and regularly lift items up to 25 pounds. Heavier lifting occurs at times.
- Ability to work with and be respectful of people with diverse backgrounds, identities, and abilities. This includes but is not limited to: race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression/identity, national origin, veteran or disability status.
Schedule
- Approximately four 1-2 hour meetings during the early spring for planning plus approximately two 2 hour training sessions
- Part-time, 12-16 hours per week over the course of 10 weeks from July 31 to October 4 which breaks down to:
- 4 – 8 hours during the week for ingredient preparation with volunteers and youth.
Weekday prep schedule will be determined by the scheduling needs of the person hired as the Troy Farm Pizza Night Manager as well as the schedules of youth and volunteers. - Approximately 8 hours on Thursdays (day of event) to finish remaining preparation work, set-up, manage the oven, coordinate the event, and clean-up.
Schedule is every Thursday from July 31st to September 18th. - Saturday events will require 8-10 hours to manage the event day of and may require up to 4 hours of prep during the week prior to the event
Schedule is Saturday September 27th, approximately 12pm to 8pm and Saturday October 4th approximately 10 am to 8pm - Hours are flexible and some time will be spent planning, shopping, and coordinating all aspects of events prior to the events as well as some food preservation.

- Must have reliable transportation to and from Troy Farm, which is located on the B bus line.
- Ability to pass a standard background check.
